Plattsburgh State Women's Basketball Tripped Up by Oneonta, 68-52

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's basketball team was unable to solve SUNY Oneonta in a 68-52 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) loss to the Red Dragons on Friday evening at Memorial Hall.
 
Oneonta finished with a 45-38 edge in rebounds, and the Red Dragons forced the Cardinals into 21 turnovers. Both teams shot evenly from the floor, with Oneonta knocking down 34.8 percent (23-of-66) of its shots and Plattsburgh State shooting at a 33.3 percent (19-of-57) clip. The Red Dragons shot 78.9 percent (15-of-19) from the line, while the Cardinals knocked down 72.7 percent (8-of-11) of their shots from the charity stripe.
 
Plattsburgh State falls to 9-9 overall (5-7 SUNYAC) with the loss and will host SUNY New Paltz tomorrow at 4 p.m. Prior to the start of the game, the Cardinals will honor their two seniors: guards Moe Jones (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) and Jax Miller (Argyle, N.Y./Argyle). Oneonta rises to 11-7 overall (8-3 SUNYAC) with the win and closes out its North Country trip tomorrow at SUNY Potsdam at 4 p.m.
 
While Jones scored the first two points of the game, Oneonta went on an 18-4 run to stake itself to a 12-point lead. Plattsburgh State scored six of the final eight points of the period, however, and a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Bella DePasquale (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) trimmed the deficit to 20-12 before the end of the first quarter.
 
Freshman forward Taylor Clare (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) scored on the Cardinals opening possession of the second quarter to pull Plattsburgh State within six, but an 11-3 Red Dragon run gave the visitors as a 14-point cushion. Freshman guard Brooke Benna (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) and Jones each hit 3-pointers to cut the gap to eight, but Oneonta scored twice in the final minute of the period to enter the locker rooms with a 35-23 edge.
 
From that point forward, Oneonta controlled the game, leading by as many as 22 points late in the third quarter and 24 points in the fourth. Plattsburgh State did, however, close the game on an 8-0 run, with freshman guard Christina Testa (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) providing the final score with a 3-pointer with seven seconds left.
 
Jones keyed the Cardinal attack with a game-high 14 points, while freshman forward Becca Mahon (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Miller dished out four assists, while Clare finished with two blocks.
 
For Oneonta, junior guard Samantha Lisikatos scored a team-high 10 points in 15 minutes coming off the bench, while senior forward Sarah DiPasquale posted a team-high 10 rebounds, also in reserve duty.
