Oxy Edged By Redlands in Thriller

More news about: Occidental

LOS ANGELES — Triana Anderson scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Shariah Greenadded 16 and Tala Ismail had 14 points and three steals.

But the Occidental women's basketball team fell to Redlands 65-64 in a thriller at Rush Gymnasium on Wednesday.

The Tigers led for most of the game and were up by nine points at the start of the fourth quarter before the Bulldogs began to hit the offensive boards. Redlands was able to steal extra possesions, grabbing seven offensive rebounds in the final 10 minutes.

Jade Cheldelin led Redlands with 20 points, including the go-ahead 14-foot jump shot with 8 seconds to play.

Green, who had put Oxy up by one the play earlier, muscling her way to the basket for a right-handed power lay up, caught the ball at the top of the key on a well-designed isolation play and drove it hard to her left, but couldn't convert the contested layup that would have put Oxy on top.

The Tigers fouled and had one last chance with .8 seconds remaining after the Bulldogs missed both free throws, but Oxy's out-of-bounds pass toward Green near the hoop was swatted down before it could reach her.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 10-8 overall and 6-3 in SCIAC play. Oxy is currently in fourth with seven games to play.

Redlands improves to 8-9 and and is in fifth at 5-3.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action against Whittier at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
