No. 3 Lady Royals Move to 15-0; Never Trail in 76-48 win at Goucher in Landmark Conference Play

TOWSON, Md. - Freshman guard Mackenzie Yori (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) scored a team-high 18 points to lead the way, as the third-ranked University of Scranton women's basketball team jumped out to a an early lead on host Goucher, and never looked back in a 76-48 win in Landmark Conference play on Saturday.

With the win, the Lady Royals remained unbeaten on the year, moving to 15-0 overall and 4-0 in the Landmark Conference with the victory. Scranton also extended their regular season winning streak to 49 games in the victory, 28 of those coming in Landmark Conference play.

Goucher fell to 4-10 overall and 0-4 in the Landmark Conference with the defeat.

In the win, Scranton took control of the ballgame in the first quarter, as the Lady Royals lept out to an 8-0 lead in the first two minutes of the contest.

Holding a 20-11 lead after the opening period, Scranton extended the lead out to 29-15 halfway through the second quarter, and remained on top by double-digits at 41-28 at halftime.

It was more of the same for Scranton in the second half, as the closest Goucher came to the lead was eight points (41-33) early in the third quarter. At the end of the third, the Lady Royals took their biggest lead of the game at 58-36.

From there, Scranton rolled, collecting their 15th straight win to open the year by 28 points on the road.

Overall, Yori led four double-digit scorers for Scranton with her 18-point afternoon, going 7-of-10 from the field in the win, while nailing four three pointers. Elsewhere, senior Alexix Roman (Hawley, Pa./Wallenpaupack) scored in double figures for the 14th time in 15 games on the year, finishing with 14 points.

Sophomore guard Bridgette Mann (Canadensis, Pa./Wallenpaupack) added 12 points with four assists, while senior forward Sarah Payonk (Schwenksville, Pa./Spring-Ford) posted a double-double, scoring 11 points, while grabbing 11 rebounds.

The University of Scranton women's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Moravian for another Landmark Conference match-up on the road. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
