UNE knocks off Nichols, 75-57

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Junior Brooke Packard (Dudley, Mass.) scored 17 points for the Nichols College women's basketball team, which was defeated by UNE 75-57 Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Harry Alfond Arena.
 
Sophomore Mekaela Fithian-Giantonio (Plainville, Conn.) chipped in with 10 points for the Bison, who shot 34 percent from the field and 62 percent from the field. Senior Taylor Daniels (Dudley, Mass.) scored eight points.
 
Junior Sam MacDonald (Lebanon, N.H.) led three UNE student-athletes in double-figures in scoring with 15 points and tied for the team lead in rebounds (eight) with freshman Sadie Nelson (Windham, Maine). Senior Alicia Brown (Greenland, N.H.) filled the stat sheet with 12 points, seven boards, and six blocks.
 
The Nor'easters knocked down 41 percent of their shots (28-of-69) and outrebounded the Bison 48-36.
 
Nichols trailed 27-8 after and 38-24 at the break. Brown and Nelson each scored nine points to pace UNE while Daniels led the Bison with seven in the opening 20 minutes.

Today's contest marked the 26th all-time meeting between Nichols College and UNE. The Nor'easters have won the last 16 contests and lead the series, 21-5.
