Drew Never Trails in 81-63 Defeat of Albertus Magnus

MADISON, N.J. (Jan. 5, 2017) – The Drew University women's basketball team started the new year by leading wire-to-wire in an 81-63 victory over Albertus Magnus College on Thursday evening in Baldwin Gymnasium.
 
By the Numbers: The Rangers move to 4-7 overall and 3-4 at home, while breaking a two-game skid. The Falcons have their two-game win streak snapped and fall to 6-5 overall and 2-3 away from New Haven, Conn.
 
Top Performers
• Senior guard Hannah Miller made her return to the court following a two-game absence with a game-high 25 points on the strength of six 3-pointers.
• Junior center Ally Raulf pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds and added 14 points for her first career double-double.
• Senior forward Sam Lane recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 boards – four of which came on the offensive glass, a season high.
• Junior point guard Michaela Keegan was flawless as the Rangers' floor general, passing out a career-high eight assists without a single turnover. She rounded out a stacked stat line with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting, five rebounds and a steal.
 
Turning Point: The Rangers jumped out to an early lead in the opening quarter thanks to a 9-0 run to start the game and a shooting percentage north of 60 percent by the period's end. Miller made her return to the court quickly noticeable by hitting three 3-pointers in the first quarter, helping Drew to a 21-12 lead in the opening period.
 
Highlights
• Drew began the second just as they did the first on a game-changing run. The Rangers spead  the offense around with points by Raulf, Lane, Keegan and Miller contributing to an 11-0 to put Drew up by 20 less than two minutes into the second period.
• The Falcons quickly responded with a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 35-23, but the Rangers maintained a double-digit lead until midway through the quarter. That's when Albertus Magnus put together another stint to cut deeper into the Drew lead, which dwindled down to five midway through the second.
• Back-to-back layups from Raulf and an aggressive drive to the hoop from Keegan put the Rangers back out front by double-digits with 5:12 to play in the third. The Falcons would not get the deficit below 10 points until the last shot of the quarter, when Drew headed into the final period up 59-50.
• Albertus Magnus was led by Olivia Bolden, who notched a double-double with 16 rebounds and 14 rebounds.
 
Stat Sheet
• The Rangers' shooting percentage came back down to earth, but still finished at an excellent 47 percent compared to the Falcons' 39 percent. Drew made 10 three-pointers, while the Falcons struggled from the free throw line with a 9-of-20 mark (45 percent).
• Stellar team basketball by Drew was highlighted by a season-high 20 assists on 33 made field goals.
• Drew won the battle in the paint, 40-27, and also held the edge in rebounding, 43-40.
• The Rangers turned 16 Falcon turnovers into 15 points, while allowing just four points off turnovers in the victory.
