Third-Ranked Scranton Rolls Past PSU-Abington, 83-31

ABINGTON, Pa. – The third-ranked University of Scranton women's basketball team used a fast start and a dominant third quarter to rout Penn State-Abington, 83-31, in the team's final regular season non-conference game.

Scranton (12-0) jumped out to a 21-5 lead after a quarter and led by 30 at halftime. The Lady Royals then put the game away by outscoring Penn State-Abington (4-4), 27-2, in the third quarter.

Senior forward Alexix Roman (Hawley, Pa./Wallenpaupack) had a team-high 15 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Junior forward Katie Feehery (Media, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) finished with a career-high 11 points along with five rebounds and two assists in 13 minutes off the bench. Junior guard Bridgette Mann (Canadensis, Pa./Wallenpaupack) added 10 points and three assists.

Scranton finished the night hitting 50.8 percent (32-for-63) from the field, including seven of 15 (46.7 percent) from 3-point range. The Lady Royals finished the night with a 64-24 rebounding edge and had a 44-8 advantage in points in the paint.

Senior forward Sarah Payonk (Schwenksville, Pa./Spring-Ford) finished with nine points, all in the first half, along with five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Sophomore guard Madison Ashby (Pittston, Pa./Scranton Prep) had a career-high eight points, senior forward Denise Rizzo (Paramus, N.J./Holy Angels) had seven points and six rebounds, and freshman forward Sofia Recupero (Whitestone, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) finished with six points, four rebounds and four assists.

Scranton will move into Landmark Conference play for the remainder of the season, beginning with a road game on Saturday, Jan. 7, at Elizabethtown at 2 p.m.
