PATCHOGUE, N.Y.  – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team suffered a Skyline Conference loss to St. Joseph's College Long Island, 54-36, in a continuation of the game that was suspended on Tuesday, November 29. The Golden Eagles improve to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in Skyline play, while the Maccabees drop to 2-9 overall and still seek their first conference win.

Leading the way for Yeshiva was junior forward Michal Alge, who produced a double-double with 17 points and 20 rebounds, while blocking one shot and forcing two steals. Senior forward Tess Blaustein added seven points with eight rebounds, while dishing out three assists and forcing just as many steals. Classmate Simee Rosner scored six points, while pulling down eight rebounds.

Alge and Rosner combined for back-to-back baskets to give the Maccabees an early 4-0 advantage. The Golden Eagles went on a 14-1 run to take the lead for good, 14-5, with 2:25 left in the opening quarter.

In the second stanza, Yeshiva outscored St. Joseph's L.I., 10-9. A layup by Rosner pulled the Blue and White to within four, at 22-18, with 1:26 remaining until the break. The home team finished the half strong as Yeshiva trailed, 25-18, at the intermission.

Junior guard Andrea Weiss drilled a three-point field goal to start the third quarter, narrowing the opposition's lead to 25-21. After a basket by the home team, freshman guard Laura Betesh nailed two free throws to shrink Yeshiva's deficit to 27-23, with 8:50 left in the period. That would be as close as the Maccabees would get, as the Golden Eagles scored seven unanswered points to take a commanding 34-23 lead. Yeshiva was outscored, 18-10, in the fourth quarter as St. Joseph's L.I. went on to win the Skyline contest.

For the game, Betesh scored three points, while forcing a game-high four steals. Weiss scored three points of her own, while sophomore guard Avigayil Wiener had three steals. Senior guard Tzipora Leiser forced one steal, while sophomore guard Penny Rabin grabbed one rebound.

Yeshiva will return to the ARC Arena on Monday, for a non-conference game against the University of Maine, Presque Isle, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
