Providence, R.I.--Senior guard Alex More (West Newbury, MA) became just the 14^th player in Rhode Island College women's basketball history to score 1,000 points as she scored a game-high 26 points, but it wasn't enough as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team fell to Eastern Connecticut, 61-48, in a Little East Conference contest played at The Murray Center on Saturday afternoon.

Moore scored her 1,000^th career point for RIC (4-6, 1-0 LEC) on a layup with :43 seconds left in the contest to go along with four rebounds, three assists and three steals in the setback. Freshman guard Jordyn Gauvin (Fall River, MA) pitched in with 10 points and five rebounds in a losing effort.

Eastern Connecticut (5-3, 1-1 LEC) was led by sophomore forward Kelsey Santagata (Stamford, CT) with 14 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, while senior guard Julia DePoi (Brookfield, CT) tallied 13 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists in the victory. Senior guard Jordyn Nappi (Southington, CT) rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Warriors with 12 points. 

Eastern Connecticut had command of the contest early and took a 10-0 lead on a three-pointer by DePoi with 6:09 left in the first quarter. The visiting Warriors built a 14-6 advantage after the quarter with Santagata scoring four points and three assists and ECSU outrebounding RIC by an 18-5 margin in the frame.

ECSU extended its lead to 13 points midway through the second quarter when a three-pointer by Nappi made the score 23-10 with 4:50 left on the clock. RIC responded and cut the lead down to just four points as a jumper from More put the score at 25-21 late in the first half. Eastern Connecticut took a five-point, 26-21, lead heading into the locker room at halftime. RIC forced Eastern Connecticut into 10 turnovers and held the Warriors to just 31.0 percent (9-of-29) shooting from the field over the first 20 minutes. 

Eastern pushed the lead back to as many as eight points several times in the third quarter before taking a 37-29 lead after three quarters of play. RIC shot just 21.4 percent (3-for-14) from the field in the third quarter.

Once again, the Anchorwomen responded early in fourth quarter and cut their deficit down to just 43-38 on a layup by Moore with 7:36 left on the clock. That would be as close as RIC would get, however as Eastern Connecticut pulled away down the stretch, which included making 6-of-6 from the line during the final two minutes of action, to take the conference victory.

RIC shot 38.5 percent (20-of-52) from the field, 15.4 percent (2-of-13) from behind the three-point stripe and 75.0 percent (6-of-8) from the free throw line. Eastern Connecticut shot 32.8 percent (19-of-58) from the field, 23.8 percent (5-of-21) from the three-point line and 69.2 percent (18-of-26) from the free throw line.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College is off for finals and the holidays. Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference action at UMass Boston on Saturday, Jan. 7 (1 p.m.).
