No. 13 Montclair St. Clamps Down on Rowan in Fourth, 67-57

Glassboro, NJ – Junior Katie Sire scored a game-high 20 points while senior Zoe Curtis posted a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds as No. 13 Montclair State shut down Rowan in the fourth quarter for a 67-57 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Junior guard Kate Tobie registered 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Red Hawks (9-0, 5-0 NJAC), who remained unbeaten on the season. It was the first meeting between MSU and Rowan (7-2, 3-2 NJAC) since their NJAC Championship Game contest last February won by Montclair State.

The Red Hawks jumped out to an 18-10 lead after one period and held the same margin at halftime. Rowan countered with a 21-12 third quarter to take a one-point lead (47-46) heading into the fourth.

Montclair began the final period with the first six points to take the lead. Sire scored the last four for a 2-47 lead with 8:14 to go. Leading 54-51, Curtis drained a three-pointer with five minutes left and another by Sire with 3:10 to play gave Montclair State a 60-51 advantage.

Rowan would pull within 60-55 with 1:44 to play however Sire connected twice from the line with 35 ticks and Curtis two more second seconds later restoring the lead to 64-55.

Rachael Krauss added six points, five rebounds and three assists for Montclair State, which connected eight times from behind the arc. Curtis had four of those and the Red Hawks enjoyed a 46-36 edge on the boards, including 20 offensive rebounds.

The Red Hawks are now off until Tuesday, December 20 when it takes on St. Mary's College (IN) in the La Vegas Hoopla in Nevada. It will be the first of two games in for the Red Hawks who face Regis College on December 21.
