CORTLAND, N.Y. - Kathryn Halloran made two free throws with 3.7 seconds remaining to cap Fredonia's game-ending 10-0 run and the Blue Devils defeated Cortland, 72-70, in a battle of two of the SUNYAC's women's basketball leaders.

Fredonia improved to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in the SUNYAC, while Cortland fell to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Cassidy Chapko (Valley Falls/Hoosic Valley) led Cortland with a career-high tying 28 points along with four assists and four rebounds. She made a career-high seven 3-pointers in 13 attempts. Taylor Miller (Freeport) added 11 points, four assists and four rebounds, Alyssa Crosby (Brier Hill/Hammond) finished with 10 points and career bests of 14 rebounds and four assists, and Stephanie Rice (Duanesburg) contributed nine points and six rebounds.

Jenna Einink led Fredonia with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting along with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Alexis Cheatham made five 3-pointers and ended with 22 points, Jacque Law totaled 11 points and a game-high eight assists, and Halloran finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Fredonia trailed by as many as 12 points in the fourth quarter and was still down by eight at 70-62 with just over two minutes remaining. Law hit a layup with 2:05 left and, following a Cortland turnover, Cheatham sank a 3-pointer at the 1:27 mark to cut the Blue Devils' deficit to three at 70-67.

Cortland missed a shot with just under a minute remaining, and Law hit her only 3-pointer of the afternoon from the right wing with 47 seconds left to tie the game. The Red Dragons turned the ball over again with just under 32 seconds left.

Following a timeout, Fredonia ran the clock down to under 10 seconds. The Blue Devils missed a jumper with seven seconds left, but Halloran grabbed the rebound and was fouled. She made both free throws to give Fredonia its first lead since it held an 8-5 lead with 5:03 left in the first quarter.

Cortland called timeout to automatically advance the ball into the frontcourt. The inbounds pass went to Chapko, and her potential long game-winning 3-point attempt hit the rim and bounded away as the buzzer sounded.

Cortland finished the game shooting 43 percent overall and 44 percent (11-of-25) from the arc. Fredonia finished at 36 percent overall and 38 percent (9-of-24) from downtown. The Red Dragons ended up turning the ball over 21 times to Fredonia's 16.

Cortland will travel to SUNY Poly in Utica for a non-league game next Saturday at noon.
