HANOVER, IND. – Despite a 29-12 second quarter roll that helped lead Hanover College past Manchester University Saturday, Dec. 3, 90-75 in the 2016-17 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both sides, Coach Josh Dzurick's Black and Gold team continued to see positives.

In their loop lid-lifter at Collier Arena, those pluses came from freshman guard Hannah Newby (Danville, Ind.), junior forward/center Torrie Christlieb (Culver, Ind.), fellow junior forward Samantha Bolen (Greenwood, Ind.) and freshman guard Haley Farris (Sharpsville, Ind.). Newby turned in her best outing to date in an MU uniform, scoring a team-high 16 points, due in large part to a six-for-six performance at the free throw line, to go with three assists and three steals. Christlieb, like Newby, came off the bench, tallying seven points on a 100 percent afternoon from the field (three-for-three) to go with two blocked shots and a steal. Farris made the most of her 18 minutes on the floor, as she grabbed four rebounds, dished out two assists and finished with three steals.

Hanover, moving to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference, took advantage of 26 visiting turnovers. The Panthers had five players finish in double figures. Dzurick's crew made things anything but easy on their hosts, bolting out to a 10-2 lead as part of a 23-16 edge after the first 10 minutes. From there, Hanover went on a 10-0 run to begin the second stanza and didn't look back.

The Spartans (0-6 overall, 0-1 HCAC) wrap up five straight games away from North Manchester Wednesday, Dec. 7. They go to Defiance College for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
