LOS ANGELES — Erin Matsumoto scored 14 points, and Shariah Green added eight points, 13 rebounds, five assists and two steals.

But the Occidental women's basketball team missed six free throws late in the fourth quarter, coming up a little short of a comeback win against NAIA Northern New Mexico in a 65-62 loss at Rush Gymnasium on Saturday.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 3-3 on the season. Northern N.M. improves to 5-6.

Krishia Artieda scored a game-high 22 points, including a pair of three pointers as the Eagles took control of the game with a 21-9 third quarter. Ashley John also hit a pair of threes during the 10 minutes.

The Tigers chipped away and made it interesting at the end of the fourth quarter. Trailing by eight with a little more than 1 minute to play, Dru Ishibashi hit a pull up three-pointer, cutting the Eagles' lead to 65-60. Oxy pressured Northern N.M. next offensive possession, forcing a turnover that that turned into a 2-on-1 opportunity. Green scooped up the loose ball and threw the outlet pass toTriana Anderson, who found Matsumoto for an easy layup, cutting the lead to 65-62 with 47.5 seconds remaining.

After both teams traded missed free throws, the Tigers had the ball and a chance to tie as time was winding down, but couldn't get a look at the basket before the buzzer sounded.

Next Game: The Tigers play their first SCIAC game against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Dec. 10 at 5 p.m.
