DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team held visiting Cabrini University to under 30 percent shooting from the field and earned its first win of the season with a convincing 60-40 victory. 


The Aggies moved to 1-5 overall while the Cavaliers fell to 2-4.

The Cavaliers opened the game with five straight points from Erin Dodds before DelVal went on an 8-0 run that included two consecutive layups and a free throw from Monika Smallwood and a trey from Ashley Smink. The Aggies led 10-7 after the first quarter.

DelVal outscored Cabrini, 18-8, in the second quarter including an 11-2 run over the final 4:15 to take a 28-15 advantage into halftime. Three different Aggies hit from beyond the arc in the quarter including Smink, Danielle Skedzielewski and Sarah Wills.

Sam Foy opened the second half with a long 3-pointer to extend the DelVal lead to 16, 31-15, and the team held onto a 13-point advantage at the end of three quarters of play. The Cavaliers were able to cut the lead to less than 10 only once when a Pattie Fortescue jumper capped off a 6-0 run and made it 41-32 with 8:50 left in the game. DelVal responded to the threat by outscoring Cabrini, 19-5, until the waning seconds. Five different players scored in the run including a combined 13 by Skedzielewski and Smink.

The Aggies hit eight 3-pointers on the afternoon and they outrebounded Cabrini by a 43-36 margin. Their defense forced 23 turnovers and grabbed 11 steals while Sam Foy had all five of the team's blocks. Smink led all scorers with a game-high 19 points to go with six rebounds and three assists. Skedzielewski contributed 15 points and four boards and Monika Smallwood added nine points and six boards.

Dodds and Myonie Williamson combined for 23 points for the Cavaliers while Renee Oliver notched a game-high 11 rebounds.

DelVal will be back in action Tuesday, December 6 when the travel to Rosemont College for a non-conference tilt.
