KING'S WOMEN FALL AT RUTGERS-CAMDEN

CAMDEN, NJ -- Jovan Childers scored 24 points and the visiting King's College women's basketball team was unable to recover from a 19-8 first quarter deficit as the Lady Monarchs dropped a 72-54 non-conference decision to Rutgers-Camden University Thursday night in Camden, NJ.

With the win Rutgers-Camden improved to 5-1 while King's slipped to 1-6 with its fourth straight loss.

King's took an early 4-2 lead on a pair of Alexis Steeber foul shots and an inside basket by Rebecca Prociak.  Rutgers-Camden answered with a 17-4 run to close out the first quarter with a 19-8 lead.

In the second quarter, the Scarlett Raptors came out and got a three-pointer by Gabby Greene to push the score to 22-8, but Prociak countered with four straight points to cut the lead to 22-12 with 8:12 to go in the half.

After Rutgers-Camden scored a pair of baskets, Olivia Hoffman made a pair of short jumpers and Prociak scored inside to cut the score to 26-18 at the 5:05 mark.  Cara Racobaldo made one-of-two free throws for the Raptors, but King's responded with a three-pointer by Kayla Feairheller and a driving lay-up from Steeber to trim the lead to 27-23 with 3:58 to go in the half. Rutgers-Camden would outscore King's 8-4 the rest of the way to take a 35-27 lead at the break.

In the third quarter Rutgers forged ahead 39-30 after a Racobaldo jumper, but King's used a 5-0 spurt on a pair of foul shots by Prociak and a three-pointer form Kasey Seitz to close to within 41-35 with 6:40 to play in the quarter.

The Scarlet Raptors, however, answered with a 10-2 run to stretch the lead to 51-37 on a Michelle Obassi jumper with  3:02 to play in the period. Rutgers then took a 56-41 lead into the fourth quarter after a Jovan Childer steal and lay-up. Rutgers-Camden would then build a 59-41 lead thanks to a Gabby Greene three-pointer with 8:47 left in the contest.

King's tried to respond when Hoffman made a jumper, Feairheller hit on a three-pointer, and Hoffman then made one-of-two foul shots to cut the score to 59-46 with 5:41 remaining. But the Raptor lead eventually grew to 72-50 after a Kacie Walton three-pointer with 0:39 on the clock.

Prociak converted a lay-up with 0:30 left, then added two free throws following a Feairheller steal with 0:11 to play to set the final score.

Prociak led King's with a career-high 19 points and six rebounds while Steeber added 13 points and six boards. Hoffman tallied seven points, eight rebounds, and two blocks while Feairheller contributed seven points and three rebounds. Seitz chipped in with six points, three rebounds, and two steals. King's hurt itself with 25 turnovers in the game
