No. 5 Saints Open PAC Play With an 88-47 Win Over Grove City

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The fifth-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball opened Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play tonight (Wednesday, November 30, 2016) as it defeated Grove City College, 88-47, at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints remain undefeated at 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the PAC and with the loss, the Wolverines fall to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the PAC.

Thomas More out-scored Grove City 30-12 in the first quarter and 21-13 in the second quarter to build a 51-25 lead at halftime.  The Saints continued to dominate in the second half as they out-scored the Wolverines 18-8 in the third quarter and 19-14 in the fourth quarter to cruise to the 88-47 victory.

The Saints shot 50 percent from the field as they connected on 37-of-74 shots, while outscoring Grove City 56-22 in the paint, 21-5 off turnovers, 17-6 in second chance points and 16-0 on fast break points.  Defensively, Thomas More forced 21 Wolverine turnovers and recorded 15 steals, while blocking nine shots.

Sophomore guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) led the Saints in scoring with a game-high 22 points, while junior guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) added 14 points.  Sophomore forward Shelby Rupp (Milan, Ind./Batesville) finished with eight points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, while blocking a game-high four shots.  Sophomore guard Michaela Ware (Newport, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) led the team in assists with eight.

Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (December 3) when it travels to Greenville, Pennsylvania to play Thiel College at 1 p.m. inside Beeghly Gymnasium.
