Hawks Ride Dominant Second Quarter to Convincing 72-45 Victory Over Previously Unbeaten Oneonta

            ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick (3-3) trailed host SUNY Oneonta 17-14 after one quarter, but used a massive 18-1 run to start the second quarter in a big 72-45 victory over the Red Dragons Tuesday night at Dewar Arena. Oneonta had entered the game undefeated with three wins in its first three contests. The Hawks snap a two-game winless streak against the Red Dragons and improve to 22-19 against them all-time.
            Senior forward Jacqui Foreman (Tolland, CT/Tolland) led the way for Hartwick with a double-double and game-highs of 23 points and 15 rebounds. Emily Stone (Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) and Carly Johnson (Greenville, NY/Greenville Central) each added 15 points for the Hawks.
            Hartwick shot 40% (26-for-65) for the game while holding the Red Dragons to just 24.6% (14-for-57). The Hawks dominated down low, out-scoring the Red Dragons 36-6 in the paint and they out-rebounded them by a margin of 50-42. 'Wick took care of the basketball on the night, committing just five turnovers. The Hawks would dish out nine assists on the offensive end.
            Hartwick scored seven of the first nine points in the game to take the early advantage. An 11-2 Oneonta spurt would put the hosts up by three after 10 minutes.
            After a Johnson three and an Oneonta free throw in the opening 1:13 of the second, the Hawks would score the next 15 points over a six-minute span to storm ahead. Johnson would total nine points in the rally with Foreman adding six.  
            Oneonta finally got a three-point basketball but the Hawks scored six of the final seven points for a 38-22 lead at the intermission.          
            The 'Wick advantage grew to 17 on three occasions in the third quarter and never dropped below 11 as the Hawks maintained their edge.
            The Red Dragons only managed five free throws through the first five and a half minutes of the third quarter as the Hawks' advantage continued to hover around 15 points. The Hawks would close the final four and a half minutes of the game scoring 15 of the last 18 points for the 72-45 victory.           
            Foreman shot 11-of-17 (.647) from the floor and grabbed six offensive boards in the game for 'Wick. Johnson made six of her 14 shots, including a trio of three-pointers. She added five rebounds. Stone hit 7-of-8 from the free-throw line and registered four assists, three steals, and three rebounds.
            Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) chipped in six points, four boards, and three assists. Courtney Cirillo (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) pulled down seven rebounds and Liz Harvey (Berne, NY/Berne-Knox-Westerloo HS) added five points.
            Oneonta's Leanne Corso led her team with eight points and 12 rebounds. Brianna Spector added seven points and seven rebounds.
            Hartwick is off until Sunday, December 18 when it faces FDU-Florham in the HOOPMIA D3 Holiday Shootout in Miami, FL. Tip-off is 2 p.m.
