Taylor ties a career high; led by five players in double figures, Sewanee rolls past Methodist

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 26, 2016)  Sophomore Bella Taylor tied her previous career high and four other players joined her in double-figure scoring as the Sewanee women's basketball team defeated Methodist 87-71 to open the Transylvania Thanksgiving Classic, Saturday.

Taylor tied her previous career high of 30 points on 12-for-19 shooting. That included six three-point shots to go along with four assists and five steals. She was joined in double digits by Hannah McCormack (16), Corey Caulder (12), Sue Kim (11), and Allison Hitchcock (11).

As a team, Sewanee made 46.5 percent of its attempts, which included 15 three-point field goals.

With both teams tied at 23 at the end of the first quarter, Sewanee opened the second quarter on a 14-2 run. During that stretch, Hitchcock, Taylor, and McCormack all scored. After another three by Taylor, Methodist finally scored on back-to-back possessions in the second which cut the Tiger lead to 11, 41-30.

Eventually, Sewanee led by 14. 49-35, at halftime after making 45.7 percent of its attempts the first two quarters. From there, Sewanee stretched its lead to as much as 27 points early in the fourth quarter.

Along with the great offensive performance, Sewanee outrebounded Methodist 35-32. The Tigers also forced 19 turnovers which led to 18 points. 

Forward Jessica Campbell paced Methodist with 21 points. Three other Monarch players finished with 10.

Winners of two straight, Sewanee will look to keep its momentum going with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Ferrum, Sunday.
