More news about: Hope

Guard Tyra Smith scored a career-high 20 points as the Hope College women's basketball team cruised to a 92-58 nonleague win at NAIA Cornerstone on Saturday.

Four teammates joined the junior from Grand Rapids, Michigan (GR Christian HS) in double figures for the nationally ranked and unbeaten Flying Dutch, who improved to 5-0 overall.

Hope led for all but the first 39 seconds of the game. The first of Smith's game-high four 3-pointers gave the Flying Dutch the lead for good at 3-2.

Hope went on to lead 20-10 after the first quarter.

Three Flying Dutch starters also scored in double figures. Senior forward Mandy Traversa of Winfield, Illinois (Wheaton North) totaled 15 points, including three 3-pointers. Senior guard Angelique Gaddy of Caledonia, Michigan (South Christian) netted 14 points.

Off the bench, Hope received 10 points apiece from senior forward Allison Hedrick of Naperville, Illinois (Neuqua Valley) and sophomore guard Victoria Swift of LaGrange, Illinois (Lyons Township).

The Flying Dutch made 12 3-pointers — their most in a single game since 13 against Albion on Feb. 7, 2015.

Hope returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. when the Flying Dutch tip off the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association season against Calvin at DeVos Fieldhouse.
