New Paltz Rallies Late to Defeat Hartwick 69-67

            NEW PALTZ, NY – Hartwick led by seven points with two and a half minutes to go but host New Paltz finished the game on an 11-2 run to earn a 69-67 victory on Tuesday night in New Paltz, NY. The loss drops 'Wick to 2-3 on the season. New Paltz improves to 3-1.
            A three-point basket from Carly Johnson (Greenville, NY/Greenville Central) with just over seven minutes to go would give Hartwick its biggest lead of the game, 58-49. The hosts would chip away at the deficit and three straight three-pointers in a 1:05 span would tie the game at 67-67 with 65 seconds remaining.
            Hartwick turned the ball over and following a foul, Kit Small sank both free throws for New Paltz with seven seconds to play for a two-point edge. 'Wick had two chances at the other end as Jacqui Foreman (Tolland, CT/Tolland) missed a layup and Emily Stone's (Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) three at the horn was blocked.
            Stone would end the game as the high scorer with 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting. She made 7-of-9 from the line, grabbed four rebounds, and added three assists and three steals.
            Johnson contributed 16 points, including four three pointers. She also registered a team-best five assists. Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) recorded 12 points and seven boards and Foreman had 11 points and seven rebounds.
            The score would be tied six times with six lead changes. New Paltz led for much of the first quarter with the teams swapping leads in the second. Three free throws from Stone with 5:34 left in the third quarter would give Hartwick a 38-37 lead and 'Wick would maintain its advantage until the tying three-pointer deep in the fourth quarter.
            Hartwick shot 42.4% (25-for-59) for the game. New Paltz made 32.4% (23-for-71) from the floor, which included 13 three-pointers. The hosts also had the edge in rebounds, 47-36.
            Lindsay Bettke and Marion Dietz combined for 34 points and 10 three-pointers for New Paltz. Bettke knocked down six shots from the outside for a team-high of 20 points. Dietz had 14 points. Small added 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Courtney Irby had six rebounds, six assists, five blocks, and three steals.
            Hartwick is back in action on Tuesday, November 29 at SUNY Oneonta. Game time is 6 p.m.
