Bison upended by AMCats in home opener, 70-64

DUDLEY, Mass. – Senior Taylor Daniels (Dudley, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds in Nichols College's 70-64 loss to Anna Maria College Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's basketball action at the Nichols Athletic Center.

Junior Allison Cerrato (Rockland, Mass.) added 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists while classmate Brooke Packard (Dudley, Mass.) scored 14 points. Sophomore Amy Assad (Millis, Mass.) filled the stat sheet with nine points and eight rebounds.

Senior Christina Gauvin (Dudley, Mass.) led four AMCats in double-figures in scoring with 19 points while classmate Deja Taitt (Cambia Heights, N.Y.) finished one assists shy of a triple-double with 13 points, 10 boards and nine dimes.

The Bison trailed 19-8 after one as Taitt netted four points for the AMCats while Cerrato led all student-athletes with six points. The visitors finished the half shooting 41 percent from the field (15-of-37) and held a 10-point lead at the break (39-29). Gauvin scored 11 points for the AMCats and Assad scored eight points in the second quarter to make her the leader for NC.

Anna Maria extended its lead to 59-46 after three. Taitt carried a stat line of 10-9-9 into the final stanza while Daniels dropped in 11 points for NC in the third. The Bison cut their deficit to four behind three-consecutive triples from Packard before the AMCats regained a nine-point lead (65-56) with 3:00 to play.

The AMCats finished the contest shooting 36 percent (23-of-64) while Nichols canned 33 percent of its shots (19-of-57). The Bison struggled from the charity stripe, shooting just 57 percent (20-of-35), but they forced 19 turnovers.   

All-Time Series
This afternoon's contest marked the 54th all-time meeting between Anna Maria College and Nichols College. The AMCats have won three of the last five meetings but trail the series, 32-22.
