The Lancaster Bible women's basketball team saw its season come to an end on Saturday as the Chargers lost to Roberts Wesleyan, 77-46 in the NCCAA Div. I Midwest Region Final in Rochester, N.Y. Lancaster Bible caps its season with a record of 24-5 as the 24 wins are tied for the most wins in program history.

How it Happened: The Chargers, facing an NCAA Div. II team for the first time this season, jumped out to an early 10-8 lead as sophomore Alyssa Bowen converted a layup on a fastbreak to give Lancaster Bible a two-point advantage with four minutes to play in the opening quarter. The Redhawks took a 15-14 lead with just over a minute to play in the first quarter, but back-to-back buckets from senior Shanice Smith helped the Chargers to an 18-15 lead after one quarter of play.

The lead was short-lived as Roberts Wesleyan showed its depth and talent for almost the entire second quarter as they outscored the Chargers, 22-4. Lancaster Bible did not score its first points until the clock read 5:02 to play in the quarter as Bowen converted a layup to cut the Chargers' deficit to six at 26-20. Senior Aubrey Folger scored 25 seconds later to cut the deficit to 28-22, but it would be the last points of the quarter for the Chargers who trailed 37-22 at the break.

Lancaster Bible cut its deficit to 10 at 37-27 with 8:26 to play in the third as senior Katy Stover opened the second half with a 3-pointer, followed by a bucket from Folger. Roberts Wesleyan went on a 16-2 run following Folger's bucket and the next time the Chargers scored, a bucket from Bowen, the Redhawks led, 53-31 with 2:59 to play in the third quarter.

Seniors Folger, Smith and Stover exited the game for the final time midway through the fourth quarter as the Big Three played their final collegiate game together.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot just 20-of-67 (29.9 percent) from the floor and 2-of-15 (13.3 percent) from beyond the arc...Folger finished with a team-high 14 points, 12 rebounds and four assists...Bowen had the first double-double of her career as she had 10 points and 11 rebounds in 32 minutes...Smith added nine points and 11 rebounds, while Stover had eight points, five boards and two assists...Krissy Pennell chipped in with five points, four assists and three steals...Roberts Wesleyan's Samantha Courtney led all scorers with 17 points and 14 rebounds.

The Coach Says: "I thought we competed well, but just didn't execute like we needed to," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "They are by far one of the toughest teams we played this season and when you make mistakes, a good team will capitalize on them and that's just what they did. We shot poorly which hurt us as well."

On the experience for the underclassmen..."Today's game was a good experience for our underclassmen to build off of for next year and I thought they did a good job today," Vanderhoff said.

Thoughts on the season..."It was a great season overall," Vanderhoff said. "I'm so proud of our seniors and how they stepped up as leaders all year long. The team grew as players this season, but more importantly, they grew as people. This senior class has left a legacy at Lancaster Bible College that we want to build off of going forward. I am very thankful that I had a chance to coach them this year."

The Big Three: Seniors Aubrey Folger, Shanice Smith and Katy Stover leave Lancaster Bible as three of the best players to ever put the jersey on...Folger finishes her career as the leading scorer in Lancaster Bible basketball history with 2,141 points...She is the only basketball player in school history with 2,000 points and also grabbed 1,249 rebounds in her 116 career games...Folger's 22.1 points per game this season are the most in program history and the first time a women's basketball player averaged 20+ points a game since Vanese Evans dropped 21.7 points per game during the 1980-81 season...Folger's 596 points this season are also the most in program-history and the top three single-season point totals all belong to Folger...Shanice Smith caps her career with 1,191 points and 1,179 rebounds in 86 career games...Her 412 rebounds this season break her own program-record of 398 that she had last season...Smith had 20+ rebounds in a game nine times in her career, including a program-record 28 boards this season in a win over Bryn Athyn...Katy Stover ends her career with the second-most points in program history at 1,587...Stover had 494 points this season and scored over 485 points in each of her three seasons with the Chargers...Her 240 3-pointers are the most in program history...During the three seasons the Big Three were together, the Chargers went 71-18 and won no fewer than 23 games in a season...Over the past three seasons, Folger, Smith and Stover have combined for 4,456 of the program's 6,289 points or 70.9 percent.
