No. 1 Thomas More Defeats Maryville To Advance to "Elite Eight"

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The top-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team advanced to its third-straight NCAA Division III Championship Sectional Final "Elite Eight" as it defeated No. 18-ranked Maryville (Tenn.) College, 75-46, tonight (Friday, March 11, 2016) in a sectional semifinal "Sweet 16" at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 30-0 and will play No. 10-ranked Washington University in St. Louis tomorrow night in the sectional final at 6:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.  Doors will open at 5 p.m.  With the loss, the Scots season ends at 26-4.

Thomas More raced out to a 16-0 lead to start the game and then led 19-5 after one quarter.  The Saints used a 27-16 second quarter to extend the lead to 46-21 at halftime.  Thomas More would lead 57-37 after three quarter and went on to the 75-46 victory.

The Saints had a 36-22 advantage in points in the paint, 26-13 off turnovers, 21-8 in second chance points and 14-2 on fast break points.

Freshman guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) led four Saints in double-figure scoring with 18 points.  Joining her in double-figures was sophomore forward Nikki Kiernan (Cold Springs, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) with 15 points, sophomore guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) with 12 points and senior guard/forward Sydney Moss (St. Albans, W.Va./Boone County (Ky.)) with 10 points.  Kiernan recorded a double-double as she pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and Moss recorded a double-double with a game-high 10 assists.  Kiernan led the team in blocks with three, while senior forward Samantha Cady (St. Anthony, Minn./St. Anthony Village) led the team in steals with 12.
