SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 21, 2016) – Behind its second highest offensive performance of the season, the Sewanee women's basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak, Sunday, with a 71-54 win over Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Berry inside Juhan Gymnasium.

The Tigers enter the postseason with a 12-13 overall record. Sewanee will play second-seeded Millsaps in the SAA Tournament quarterfinals, Friday.

Sewanee opened the game on an early 9-2 run. Three straight threes by Savannah Rose, Corey Caulder, and Jamie Chauvin sparked the early spurt.

Eventually, Sewanee led by 16, 24-8, after a three by senior Haley McDonough. In fact, Sewanee made 64.3 percent of its first quarter shots, which included 66.7 percent of its three-point attempts.

Even after Berry outscored Sewanee 13-8 in the second quarter, the Tigers still led by 10, 32-22, to start the third quarter.

With that, Sewanee quickly built its lead to 19 after starting the second half on a 12-2 run. Like they did in the first quarter, again the Tigers made over 60 percent of their shots. That allowed Sewanee to build a large advantage heading into the fourth.

In fact, Sewanee pushed its lead to 21 points, 56-35, when freshman Kelsey Arbuckle made a three to open the fourth. Berry answered back with six straight points before McDonough hit a layup.

The Vikings chipped away at their deficit throughout the final 10 minutes, however, Berry never got to within single digits with late free throws from Rose, Bella Taylor, and Caulder.

Overall, Sewanee made 50 percent of its shots, which included a 13-of-26 effort from beyond the three-point arc.

Individually, Caulder led four Tigers in double figures with 16 points and seven rebounds. Taylor and Chauvin pitched in 11 each while McDonough finished with 10 points.

Guard Nia Smith led Berry with 13 points.
