SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 19, 2016) – Despite 27 points from freshman Bella Taylor, the Sewanee women's basketball team could not hold off visiting Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Oglethorpe, Friday, as the Stormy Petrels rallied for a 74-68 win inside Juhan Gymnasium.

Early on, it was all Tigers. Behind a 50 percent first-quarter shooting percentage, Sewanee led Oglethorpe 18-12 after the end of the first 10 minutes. After a jumper by senior Jamie Chauvin, OU answered back with a three by Bailey Charles on the next possession. Over the next minute and a half, the Stormy Petrels built their lead to six, 8-2.

Despite that setback, the Tigers responded in a big way. Over the final 4:37 of the first quarter, Sewanee outscored OU 16-4. During that stretch, Sewanee had field goals from Chauvin, Bella Taylor, and Katie Roth.

Another key to the early success was Sewanee's defense. The Tigers forced six early OU turnovers and limited the Stormy Petrels to a 25 percent shooting percentage.

In the second quarter, Sewanee kept rolling. The Tigers made 42.9 percent of their attempts in the second while Taylor added to her total and finished the half with 15 points. In fact, Taylor made 5-of-7 attempts in the opening half in 16 minutes of action.

With the Tigers ahead nine, 36-27, to start the third quarter, Sewanee pushed its advantage to 10 by the start of the fourth.

Unfortunately, that is when the tide turned. OU made 62.5 percent of its fourth quarter attempts while limiting Sewanee to a 25 percent field goal mark. Tthe Stormy Petrels outscored the Tigers 25-9 in the final 10 minutes.

Overall, Sewanee made 45.5 percent of its attempts. The Tigers were undone by 18 turnovers.

Along with Taylor, Chauvin finished with 13 points.
