Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's basketball team has hit the home stretch of the 2015-16 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference season with a key Senior Night contest against Transylvania University on Wednesday, February 17, at 7:30 p.m. from the Spurlock Center.

The Grizzlies, 12-4 in HCAC play, trail Transylvania by one game for third place in the league standings. That means a victory for Franklin on Wednesday would put the two teams in a tie heading into the final Saturday of the regular season.

Overall, Franklin is 16-7 for the season following last Saturday's 57-53 home victory over Mount St. Joseph University.

A major contributor to the team's success, senior forward Katie Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli), will be recognized for her many contributions to the program during the past three seasons. She has started 61 games and scored 735 points during her career. Brewer has made a significant impact on the team's defense, with 171 blocked shots in the past three seasons. She tied the single-season school record with 68 blocked shots during the 2013-14 campaign.

Brewer ranks second on this year's team in scoring at 11.9 points per game. She stands second in the HCAC by averaging nine rebounds per contest.

Junior Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) leads the team's scoring attack at 12 points per outing. She is also shooting 37.1 percent from behind the three-point field goal arc and has recorded team-highs with 54 assists and 40 steals.

Junior Kayle Comer (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) is averaging 9.8 points per game and has made a team-best 39 three-point field goals. Sophomore Kelsey Smith (Lexington, Ind./Scottsburg) has recorded 27 steals while scoring 6.2 points per game. Junior Emily Alfrey (Fairland, Ind./Triton Central) rounds out the team's balanced offensive attack at 5.6 points per outing.

Transylvania has won six straight games to improve to 17-6 on the season. The Pioneers are coming off a 75-67 victory at Defiance College last Saturday. Katelyn Smith is the conference's leading scorer at 18.9 points per game. Transylvania won the first meeting of the season with Franklin, 76-60 in Lexington, Kentucky on January 13.
