Farmingdale State - 69, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn - 65

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team held off St. Joseph's-Brooklyn for a 69-65 Skyline Conference win this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y.

Tied 6-6 with 4:01 left in the first, Farmingdale State (9-14, 8-6) used a 7-0 run over the next 2:30 to take a 13-6 lead. The Bears (7-18, 6-10) answered with a jump shot and layup from sophomore guard Destiny Marino (Middle Village, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 13-10 after one quarter.

With 3:03 left in the half and the game tied 22-22, a Kristin Ferrigno (Brooklyn, N.Y.) 3-pointer and a pair of Marino free-throws gave St. Joe's-Brooklyn a five-point edge, 27-22. The Rams closed the first half on a 9-2 run and took a 31-30 advantage into halftime. Sophomore guard Tyra Harrison (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored 13 points for FSC and Marino tallied 13 first half points for the Bears.

Tied 42-42 with 2:20 remaining in the third, Farmingdale State closed the quarter with seven unanswered points to open up a 49-42 advantage.

An Amanda Masson (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) layup put the Rams on top 56-49 with 6:52 remaining, but six straight points by Marino cut the Bears deficit to 56-55. 

After a Chelsea May (Baldwin, N.Y.) layup gave FSC a four-point lead, 65-61, St. Joe's-Brooklyn freshman guard Victoria Porcasi (Franklin Square, N.Y.) converted a pair of free-throws and later followed with a layup to even the score at 65-65 with 1:14 left on the clock. On Farmingdale State's next possession, junior guard Charnae Jenkins (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) secured an offensive rebound and set up Harrison for a layup to put the Rams ahead by two. After a missed layup by the Bears, Romero recorded the final score of the game as FSC held on for the 69-65 win.

Harrison followed her 45-point effort on Thursday evening with a team-high 25 points, five rebounds and three assists tonight. Senior guard Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) scored 13 points, had five boards and a game-high five assists, while May tallied a double-double with 10 points (5-for-8 shooting) and a career-high 13 rebounds.

Marino led the way for the Bears with a game-high 27 points and 13 rebounds, while Porcasi recorded 20 points and 11 boards.

Farmingdale State will now travel to Old Westbury for a conference game on Wednesday, February 17th at 7:00 p.m.
