CHICAGO, Ill.-- The Trine women's basketball team extended its winning-streak to five games with a 64-16 victory over Illinois Tech Saturday afternoon in Keating Sports Center.

The 16 points allowed represented the fewest allowed by a Thunder team since a 49-16 victory over Bethel (Ind.) in 1975. The win gives Trine two winning-streaks of five or more games this season, marking the first time the Thunder have had two such streaks in a season since 2000-01. Hayley Martin (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) scored 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting to pace the offensive effort. Martin is shooting 63 percent over her last four games. Trine improved to 16-7 overall, giving the Thunder its most wins in a season since 2002-03. Illinois Tech fell to 0-21 on the season.

Ten Trine players scored overall in the effort. Alivia Recker (Arlington, Ohio/Arlington) chipped in eight points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals. Lucy Sare (Charlotte, Mich./Charlotte) notched a career-high four points in a career-high 12 minutes of action. Shelby Oldham (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield Central) added a career-high five points.

The Thunder shot 36 percent from the field (22-of-61) while holding IIT to just 6-of-31 (19.4 percent) from the floor. Trine turned 34 Cardinal turnovers into 38 points, with 16 of those coming on the fast break. The Thunder also held a 30-2 scoring edge in the paint.

Martin's eight made field goals gave her 135 on the season, good for third-most in a season in the Division III era at Trine (2004-present). Martin's 336 points this season are sixth-most in a season during that time frame. She is currently second in the MIAA in scoring average.

Hailey Borowczyk scored nine points to pace Illinois Tech. The Cardinals entered play averaging just 28.5 points per game.

Trine returns to MIAA action with a road trip to Olivet this Wednesday, Feb. 17. The two teams enter the contest with identical 8-6 marks in conference play. A win would give the Thunder the season sweep and the tiebreak over the Comets for conference playoff seeding. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
