Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's basketball team is joining the nationwide effort to support and raise public awareness for breast cancer research by hosting its annual 'Play4Kay' game on Saturday, February 13, at 1 p.m. in the Spurlock Center.

The Grizzlies will be playing Mount St. Joseph University in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) game.

Franklin players will wear pink t-shirts during pregame and halftime warmup session, and announcements will be made throughout the game about how fans can donate to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Donations will be accepted throughout the contest in the lobby of the athletic center.

This is the eighth year that women's college basketball teams throughout the country have dedicated one home game to raise awareness for women's cancer research.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund has allocated more than $5 million to cancer research projects. The effort honors the former head women's basketball coach at North Carolina State University who died during the 2009-10 season from complications after her third bout with breast cancer.

Senior Katie Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) leads the team's offensive attack at 12.2 points per game. She ranks second in the conference with 9.2 rebounds per game. The forwards tops the HCAC with 45 blocked shots.

Junior Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) is shooting 39.4 percent from behind the arc and scoring 12 points per game this winter. The guard leads the team with 52 assists and 38 steals.

Junior Kayle Comer (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) has connected on a team-high 37 three-point field goals. She is scoring 9.9 points per contest this winter. Sophomore Kelsey Smith (Lexington, Ind./Scottsburg) rounds out the team's offensive attack at 6.1 points per game.

The women's basketball program will also honor the Grizzly Grandparents during pregame and a special recognition of the group during halftime.
