Franklin Travels to Hanover on Wednesday

Franklin, Ind. - With a berth in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's (HCAC) championship tournament already in hand, the Franklin College women's basketball team seeks to improve its league standing with a game at rival Hanover College on Wednesday, February 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Hanover, Indiana.

The Grizzlies stand fourth in the conference with a 10-4 record, trailing third-place Transylvania University by one game entering the final two weeks of the regular season. Overall, the Grizzlies are 14-7 on the season.

Franklin's latest win came in dramatic fashion, scoring the game's final 16 points in a 47-45 road triumph over Defiance College last Saturday. The team has held its last four opponents to an average of 47.5 points per game.

Senior Katie Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) leads the team by averaging 12.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per contest. The forward leads the HCAC with 43 blocked shots on the season.

Junior Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) scored 15 points at Defiance to raise her season scoring average to 11.8 points per game. She tops the team with 51 assists and 37 steals.

Junior Kayle Comer (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) has made a team-high 36 three-point field goals and is averaging 9.9 points per outing. Sophomore Kelsey Smith (Lexington, Ind./Scottsburg) and junior Emily Alfrey (Fairland, Ind./Triton Central) are both scoring more than 5.5 points per game this winter.

Franklin defeated Hanover 78-73 in overtime on January 20 inside the Spurlock Center.

Hanover is tied with Defiance for sixth place in the HCAC with a 5-9 league record, while being 9-12 for the season. The Panthers improved to 5-3 at home with a 71-59 victory against Manchester University last Saturday. Allison Nash leads the team's scoring attack, averaging 14.9 points per game. Claire Cromer is another double-figure scorer in the lineup at 11.7 points per game.
