MAHWAH, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Ramapo College hit 10 three-point shots and outscored the New Jersey City University women's basketball team 20-4 in the third quarter, capping the period with an 18-0 run to win the New Jersey Athletic Conference game on February 3, 71-43, at the Bill Bradley Center.
NJCU (1-19, 0-14 NJAC) trailed by just one after the first quarter (14-13) before Ramapo (5-16, 3-11 NJAC) gained the momentum in the second quarter and led 31-23 at halftime before seizing control in the third period.
In defeat, sophomore center Sharaunda Fiedtkou (West Orange, NJ/Bayonne) continued to emerge as a dominant player. She posted her fourth consecutive double-double—the only ones of her career—finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds (seven defensive). Senior forward Deseree Johnson (Red Bank, NJ/Monmouth Regional) knocked down three more three-pointers and with 103 is three shy of matching the program's career record. She scored 11 points and had four steals and a pair of assists.
Also for NJCU, sophomore center Shege Haxhaj (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst), the captain of NJCU's women's volleyball team, who made her debut as a two-sport collegiate athlete on Monday, was impressive in her second collegiate basketball game. She scored nine points on 4-of-7 shooting and had six rebounds and one block.
