ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team stormed out of the gates in the second half, outscoring Rockford University 33-6 en route to a road victory on Tuesday night.

THE DETAILS
While Benedictine did not trail, the first 20 minutes saw a lot of close competition
The first quarter saw three ties but Benedictine held an 18-12 advantage following 10 minutes
Rockford pulled within 27-26 with 4:39 to play in the first half before Raven Willis ignited a 7-0 run with a jumper
Payton Sims knocked down a three-pointer to make the score 36-28 with 2:05 remaining before Rockford closed on a 7-1 run to battle within 37-35 at the half
Benedictine came out of the locker room by scoring the first 17 points to pull away
Alanna Ferry scored the first three points of the run and dropped in a layup with five minutes left in the third, making the score 54-35
A run of 9-0 to end the third extended the lead to 70-41 after a three-pointer from Venita Parsons
Briana Hamilton scored on a layup to start the fourth quarter, stretching the run to 11-0
Benedictine led by as many as 32 points in the fourth, breezing to the win

FROM THE COACH
"We came out with great energy and enthusiasm to start the second half," head coach Charlie Averkamp said. "We let them get to the rim way too much in the first half but did a nice job shutting down the paint area in the second to take control."

STAT LEADERS
Rockford made only four field goals in the second half and shot 35.6 percent for the game after opening at 52.2 percent
Benedictine shot 59 percent in the second half and finished at 54.2 percent
Four players reached double figures in the victory led by 12 apiece from Willis and Nicole Botich
Botich tallied a third consecutive double-double by adding 12 rebounds
Hamilton notched 11 points with DeKayla Crayton picked up 10 points and nine rebounds
Benedictine held a 44-24 advantage on the glass and scored 50 points in the pain to pick up the highest single-game scoring total this year
Benedictine also converted 20 turnovers into 22 points while receiving 40 points from the bench
