DelVal Women Cruise To 77-64 Victory Over Eastern

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team cruised to a 77-64 victory over visiting Eastern University in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest on Saturday.

It was the Aggies' third straight win and sixth in their last seven matchups. They are now 9-10 overall and tied for third place in the conference with a 5-3 record. The Eagles fell to 9-10 and they have a 3-5 MAC Freedom mark.

Eastern led early, 6-5 with 7:03 to go on the first quarter clock. Then, the Aggies took over to the tune of a 19-2 run for a 24-8 lead with 1:11 left in the period. Junior Sam Foy had six points, followed by senior Kelsey Kilpatrick (5), freshmen Brianna Rivello (3) and Danielle Skedzielewski (3) and senior Eireann Anastasi (2).

The Eagles got within nine (28-19) with an 11-4 stretch that included four points by Emily Lavin, two each from Tori Grossi, Reggie Robinson and Taylor Price and one by Amber Anderson. There was 6:49 remaining in the half. DelVal outscored the Eagles, 15-6 in the final six-plus minutes for a 43-25 advantage at the intermission. Kilpatrick led the charge with six points, Anastasi contributed with five and Foy had four. Lavin paced all first-half scorers with 14 points followed by Anastasi's 12.

Neither squad could string together two consecutive baskets for the first seven minutes of the third. Then, the Aggies broke through for seven straight points to hold a 59-37 lead with 2:04 to go. Kilpatrick sank a three, Anastasi converted two foul shots and Rivello made a jumper. Eastern closed the quarter with the final five points. Three came Price and two were by Grossi.

The Eagles had the first bucket of the fourth to make the score 59-44 with 8:17 left. Delaware Valley shot down any chance of an Eastern comeback with an 11-3 run to lead 70-47, their biggest advantage of the contest at 23. Rivello had seven of the points and Skedzielewski had the other four.

The Aggies shot 44 percent (29-of-66) from the field, including 37 percent (7-of-19) from three-point range. All five DelVal starters reached double figures and accounted for all but three points. Anastasi finished with 18 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals. Kilpatrick had 16 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists. She went 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Foy and Skedzielewski contributed with 14 points apiece. They had five and four rebounds respectively. Rivello ended the contest with 12 points and six boards.

Lavin led Eastern with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Robinson had nine points and eight boards while Price and Grossi had eight and seven points respectively. Emily McPeak brought down seven rebounds and Grossi corralled six.

Delaware Valley hits the road for a conference matchup at Manhattanville College on Wednesday, February 3 (6:00 p.m.).
