Harris Leads Albright to Sixth Consecutive Victory

FREDERICK, Md. – Senior Kelecia Harris scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked four shots and No. 18 Albright cruised to a 59-33 victory over Hood on Saturday in a MAC Commonwealth game in BB&T Arena.

Albright, which extended its winning streak to six straight with the win, held Hood to just 33 points which marked its top defensive effort since limiting Penn State Berks to just 31 points in an 87-31 victory on Jan. 13, 2014.

The Lions also held Hood to a season-low 16.7 percent shooting for the game and did not permit the Blazers to score in double figures in any quarter until the fourth.

Harris finished the game 6-of-8 from the floor and she also added four steals to lead the Lions to the season sweep of Hood.

Nina Mazzarelli finished with 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. She also added six rebounds and three assists for the Lions.

Sophomore Alysha Lofton added four points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists, while Jane Joyce had four points and tied her career high with 10 rebounds.

Shannon O'Meara scored eight points to lead Hood, and Arianna Delerme finished with six points.

Albright improved to 18-2 overall and 10-1 in the MAC Commonwealth with the victory, while Hood dropped to 4-15 overall and 0-10 in conference play.

The Lions took control of the game on the strength of its defense in the second quarter.

Albright took a 17-9 lead when Emily O'Donnell converted a layup with 9:29 to play in the second quarter.

Alexis Briscoe cut the Albright lead to 17-11 on a layup with 9:03 to play in the quarter, but the Lions held the Blazers to just one point over the final nine minutes of the quarter and took a 21-12 lead into the intermission.

Albright put the game away by opening the third quarter with an 11-0 run.

Shannon Thomas connected on a three-pointer to open the run that pushed the Lions lead to 24-12 with 9:41 to play in the quarter.

Back-to-back layups by Lofton and Mazzarelli increased the Albright lead to 28-12 at the 8:17 mark of the third quarter.

Mazzarelli and Joyce each scored inside to cap the Lions run and pushed the lead to 32-12 with 4:38 remaining in the quarter.

Albright took its largest lead of the game at 56-29 when Joyce hit a pair of free throws with 1:43 remaining in the game.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday (Feb. 3) when they host Arcadia in a MAC Commonwealth game at 6 p.m. in the Bollman Center.
