Late Run Propels Franklin Past Manchester

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's basketball team closed the game on a 14-4 run to pick up a 50-48 victory over Manchester University on Wednesday in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action inside the Spurlock Center.

The Grizzlies (12-6, 8-3 HCAC) trailed 44-36 with 7:18 remaining in the game before the late rally for the victory. Sophomore Kelsey Smith (Lexington, Ind./Scottsburg) made a three-point field goal attempt as the shot clock was expiring to bring Franklin within 46-43 at the 4:52 mark.

Franklin got within 46-45 after a layup by junior Sarah Taylor (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) with 4:30 left. The hosts took its first lead since the first quarter, 50-48, when junior Kayle Comer (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) connected on a three-point field goal with 2:33 remaining.

Manchester missed two shot attempts and two free throw attempts down the stretch after Franklin took the lead.

DeSutter scored a game-high 13 points and added four assists and three steals. Comer made three three-point field goals to score 11 points in the victory. Senior Katie Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) added nine points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.

Franklin trailed 34-24 at halftime and started the comeback by outscoring the Spartans 12-6 during the third quarter.
