WATERVILLE, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team (9-7) came close to erasing an 18-point second half deficit on Tuesday evening, but could not cap off the comeback effort with a 66-59 loss at Colby College (11-7) in the non-conference finale.

The Beavers faced their largest deficit shortly into the third quarter and a 14-point disadvantage headed into the final period. UMF scored the first 12 points of the quarter with four different players tallying three points during the stretch, either from beyond the arc or with an old-fashioned three-point play by making a layup and then sinking the foul shot. Farmington continued to hang tough until the Mules knocked down a pair of jump shots in the minutes and then converted from the free throw line in the final seconds.

Meghan Smith (Boothbay, Maine/Boothbay) recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. The senior shot 6-of-10 from the floor and made all five trips to the foul line. She also dished three assists and swatted a shot away. Kelly Pomerleau (Turner, Maine/St. Dominic Academy) charted back-to-back outings with double figures as the sophomore scored 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Kennadi Grover (Cushing, Maine/Oceanside) also matched Pomerleau with 10 points.

Colby's Carlyanne Washington was close to having the same stat line as Smith by matching a game-high 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Desi Smith and Kaitlyn McCrum added 10 points apiece for the Mules.

UMaine-Farmington returns to conference action on Friday night with a trip to Lyndon State.
