Stockton Wins 11th Straight Game, 85-53

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (13-3, 8-2 NJAC) dominated the interior, scoring 40 of their 85 points in the paint as the Ospreys pulled away for an 85-53 victory over #22 Rowan (15-2, 9-1 NJAC) on Wednesday night. The win extended Stockton's win streak to 11 straight games, equaling the school record that was set in 2005-06 season and dealing the Profs their first loss in NJAC play. Taylor Christina (Franklinville/Delsea) led the Ospreys with a career-high 23 points on the night.

Christina got the Ospreys off to a quick start, nailing 12 of her markers during the first quarter. The points offset Rowan holding a 17-10 margin on the glass, helping to keep the Profs within four points at 18-14 after one frame.

Stockton sprinted out on a 13-0 run to start the second period to take a 31-14 advantage and forcing the visitors to call a timeout. April Peterson (Lafayette/High Point Regional) tallied four of the points during the spurt. The Ospreys never slowed as they continued the run, scoring 10 of the next 13 points with Shaqui Coppage (Salem/Salem) andMarina Lukianov (Howell/Howell) tallying four points each to stretch the lead to 41-17. Rowan rallied by running off a 12-2 spurt in the last 4:04 of the half to cut the Osprey lead to 41-29 at the break.

The teams battled through the first four minutes of the third quarter with Stockton holding a 10-point margin at 47-37 before Stockton finished the frame on a 13-4 run to take a 60-41 lead after three periods. Christina hit two three-pointers, with Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill/CH West) adding four more points during the run. The Ospreys would finish the rout with a 25-12 final stanza as Najha Treadwell (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) scored 12 points in the final quarter.

Christina led three Ospreys in double figures with her career-high 23 points, shooting 8-13 from the floor and 7-9 from three-point range. Treadwell picked up her fifth double-double with 16 points on 8-11 shooting and 13 rebounds. Peterson added 12 points while Francesca Gervato (Toms River/Msgr. Donovan) came of the bench to dish a career-high seven assists. Williams led all players with a game highs of 14 rebounds and five blocks.

The Ospreys shot 32-60 (53.3%) while holding the high-scoring Profs to just 20-85 (23.5%), including 3-29 (10.3%) from behind the arc on the night.

Valerie Garafolo led the Profs with 12 points as the only player in double figures. Kate Matthews and Melissa Lake pulled down eight boards each for Rowan.

Stockton will begin a three-game road trip starting with Rutgers-Newark on Saturday at 6 p.m.
