Junior Michelle Bevan scored 13 of her career-high tying 21 points in the second half, as the Emory women's basketball team posted a Friday evening home win over Carnegie Mellon University.  The Eagles upped their overall record to 10-5, 1-3 in the University Athletic Association, following a 63-52 triumph over the No. 20 Tartans, who slipped to 13-2 overall, 2-2 in the league.

Bevan scored nine points in the final stanza to help Emory outpoint CMU by a 21-13 margin.  The Eagles led by a six-point margin with 5:38 left in the contest after a bucket by sophomore Mikaila Schmitt, but the Tartans crept back to within two points with 4:14 on the clock after a layup by Liza Otto.  A three pointer by Bevan stretched the Eagles' advantage to six points but the Tartans stayed within striking distance, down by just a 54-51 count with 1:54 on the clock.  A triple by junior Shellie Kaniut provided Emory with a six-point cushion and four free throws by Bevan over a 12-second stretch boosted Emory to a 10-point lead with 40 ticks on the clock and sealing the win.

CMU shot 42.0 percent (21 of 50) from the floor compared to Emory's 36.8 percent (25 of 68).  The Tartans hit just two-of-10 three point attempts while the Eagles converted five of their 15 tries.  CMU held a slim 38-37 advantage on the glass with sophomore Dumebi Egbuna pacing the Eagles' effort with a career-high 11 boards.

Bevan concluded the night knocking down eight-of-17 from the floor along with all four of her free throw attempts.  Kaniut came off the bench to finish with 14 points on the strength of six-of-11 field goal shooting, including a pair of treys.  Senior Ilene Tsao and junior Fran Sweeney each chipped in 10 points to round out Emory's double-figure scorers.  Tsao also doled out seven assists and came up with three steals.

CMU was led by Lisa Murphy who totaled 23 points and 15 boards.
