Franklin Hits Road to Take on HCAC Leader Bluffton on Saturday

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's basketball team heads to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) leading Bluffton University on Saturday, January 23, at 4 p.m. from Bluffton, Ohio.

The contest begins the second half of the conference schedule. Franklin stands 11-5 on the season and is in a three-way tie for second place in the HCAC with a 7-2 league mark.

Bluffton stands atop the conference with a 9-0 record and a perfect 16-0 overall record for the winter. The closest game on the schedule was a 69-68 win at Franklin on January 2, when the Beavers made 35 of their 40 free throws in the contest.

The Grizzlies have won their last two games, defeating Anderson University 73-53 on January 16 and a 78-73 overtime victory against Hanover College on Wednesday.

Individually, senior Katie Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) leads the team in scoring (13 ppg), rebounding (9.6 rpg), and blocked shots (35).

Junior Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) is coming off a 25-point performance at home against Hanover, increasing her season scoring average to 12.3 points per outing. She is tops on the team with 27 steals. The guard is making 39.6 percent of her three-point field goal attempts this season.

Junior Kayle Comer (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) is averaging 10.3 points per contest. She has made a team-high 28 three-point field goals this winter. Classmate Emily Alfrey (Fairland, Ind./Triton Central) is scoring six points per game and ranks second on the team with 3.9 rebounds per game.

Bluffton features three double-figure scorers, led by Macey Sherer at 13.6 points per game. Rachel Beining ranks fifth in the HCAC with 7.8 rebounds per outing, and adds to the team's offense with 12.2 points per contest. Kaycee Rowe rounds out things out at 10.7 points per game. The Beavers won at Defiance College, 76-70, on Wednesday.
