WHITTIER — Paige WatersTriana Anderson and Midori McElwee combined for 31 points off the bench as the Occidental women's basketball team edged Whittier 56-53 on the road on Wednesday night.

Oxy forced Whittier into just 23 percent shooting and won the third quarter 16-11 to take control of the game.

Erin Matsumoto, Oxy's leading scorer this season at just over 10 points per game, had an off night shooting the ball, scoring just four points on 1 of 7 shooting, but grabbed 11 rebounds, including seven at the offensive end of the floor. She had four rebounds in the fourth quarter alone to buy Oxy extra possessions.

From the Coach: "We got a big boost for our bench tonight and pulled off a good team road win," Oxy head coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said. "Erin didn't shoot like she usually does, but she found a way to help us win the game anyway. Good players hit the boards and defend when things aren't going well for them at the other end of the floor and she did that tonight."

Season Impact: The Tigers pick up their second SCIAC win of the season, improving to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in SCIAC. Oxy has won two of its last three games.

Next Game: The Tigers are back at Rush Gymnasium against Cal Lutheran on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
