ANGOLA, Ind. – Albion matched Trine point-for-point in three of the four quarters the teams played in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball game Saturday.

However, Albion made 1-of-13 shots in scoring four points in the second quarter, and that was the difference in the Britons 71-54 loss.

Darian Payne scored 10 points and Oreyana Curry added six as Albion led 18-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Sophia Sanfilippo scored a basket and Curry hit a pair from the line for Albion's points in the second quarter. Meanwhile, Brandi Dawson scored 10 for Trine as the Thunder seized a 34-22 lead at halftime.

Emily Zgoda hit a 3-point shot and Payne tacked on a layup as Albion pulled within seven early in the third quarter, but that was as close as the Britons would get.

Payne finished with 14 points and Curry chipped in with 12.

Dawson hit 10-of-15 shots to finish with a career-high 23 and she finished a rebound shy of a double-double. Hayley Martin added 15 and Ashley Elliott 13 for the Thunder.

Albion's next game is a Wednesday home date against the nationally-ranked team from Hope. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
