Women’s Basketball Rushes Past Brockport, 77-56

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team pushed a heavy offensive game as the Hawks overtook The College at Brockport, 77-56, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) match up on Friday evening.
 
The Hawks improve to 8-3, 3-1 SUNYAC and continue their conference road trip to SUNY Geneseo tomorrow at 2 p.m. Brockport falls to 5-4, 1-1 SUNYAC and hosts SUNY Oneonta tomorrow at 2 p.m.
 
The Golden Eagles were the first to land on the board early on but the Hawks quickly caught up as junior guard/forward Kit Small (Slingersland, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Names) sunk a 3-pointer at 6:27 to tie the score. The Hawks jumped ahead on several runs before capping the first quarter with an eight-point lead.
 
Despite low scoring in the second quarter from both teams, a fastbreak layup by senior guard Colleen Ames(Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) at 0:47 would hand the Hawks a 32-18 advantage at halftime.
 
New Paltz continued to maintain a double-figure edge in the third and fourth quarters, extending its lead by more than 20 to seal the final victory.
 
New Paltz finished with 32 points off the bench while shooting 40 percent from the field (26-of-65) and 34.6 percent from the arc (9-of-26). The Golden Eagles held a 44-35 edge in rebounds and shot 72.2 percent from the foul line (13-of-18).
 
Freshman guard Lindsay Bettke (Pelham, N.Y./The Urusline School) collected 20 points off the bench to pace the Hawks, shooting 6-of-10 from the field, 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and making 5-of-6 from the line, as well as grabbing a game-high three steals. Sophomore guard Sydney Pinn (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) added 13 points and five assists while junior guard Morgan Roessler (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) chipped in 12 points and connected on 5-of-6 from the line. Junior forward Courtney Irby (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) led the team in rebounds, notching seven for the day.
 
For Brockport, freshman guard Hannah Spencer led the way with 15 points. Junior guard Faith Welch added 12 points to Brockport's efforts while junior guard/forward Hannah Rehbaum collected 12 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.
