Becca Pennington scored 18 points, including four three-pointers, while Jasmyn Flynn-Graves followed with 16 points and 10 rebounds, to help lead the Buena Vista women's basketball team to a 74-62 victory on Wednesday night inside of Siebens Fieldhouse to begin Iowa Conference play.

Pennington made 4-of-8 three-point attempts and 6-of-12 overall to lead all scorers in points.  She also added dive rebounds, dished out three assists and posted a game-high four steals.  Flynn Graves went 8-of-13 from the field en route to her first double-double of the season.  Lacey Vokt chipped in with 11 points and fell a rebound shy of double-double.

Buena Vista shot 40 percent from the field and made 10-of-27 attempts from downtown.  It's the sixth time this season the Beavers have made at least 10 three-pointers in a game.  The team had only seven such games last season.

Simpson scored the final four points of the first quarter and took a slim 14-13 lead into the second.  BVU came out strong in the second 10 minutes, outscoring the Storm by seven to take a 33-27 lead into the break.  BVU had an answer for nearly every Simpson run in the second half and never let the Storm get any closer than five.

The Beavers struggled to rebound the ball in the early going, but settled in as the game went on and would outrebound the Storm, 45-42, overall.  BVU also held a 17-5 edge in second chance points which could be looked at as a being a difference in the game.

The win is just the second for Buena Vista over Simpson in the last 10 meetings and marked the team's first conference-opening triumph since 2011-12 when it defeated Central, 69-63.

Noreen Morrow led Simpson (7-5, 0-1 IIAC) with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Buena Vista improves to 7-5 overall (1-0 IIAC) and will look for its first 2-0 IIAC start since 2011-12 when it travels to Loras College on Saturday afternoon for a 2:00pm tip-off with the Duhawks.
