LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team improved to 7-0 in conference play with a 69-64 home victory over Dominican University for the 10th win of the season.

Benedictine played strong defense early, limiting Dominican to just 29.4 percent shooting in the first quarter
With the game virtually even following a back-and-forth opening five minutes, Benedictine embarked upon a 9-0 run to take early command
Briana Hamilton opened the run with a layup to put Benedictine ahead 10-9 and a pair of Payton Sims free throws capped the run, making the score 17-9 with 2:31 left in the first
Benedictine held a 19-12 lead after the first but Dominican would not go away, battling within a pair at one point in the second quarter, but Benedictine led 35-27 at the intermission following a last second layup from Alanna Ferry
The lead would swell to 16 points in the third quarter when Jasma Williams scored on a layup in the final minute
Dominican knocked down seven three-pointers in the fourth quarter and scored 28 points, pulling within three points late but Benedictine made three free throws in the final 30 second to claim the win
The contest featured one tie and five lead changes, all in the first quarter

"Give credit to Dominican for hitting some big shots in the fourth quarter and making the game close," head coach Charlie Averkamp said. "For the second consecutive contest we were outrebounded. We need to continue to grow and become tougher as a team."

DeKayla Crayton came off the bench to lead all scorers with 15 points and added 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season
Crayton owns five double-digit rebound contests this season
Nicole Botich added 12 points with two blocks and a pair of assists
Dominican shot 56 percent in the fourth quarter and held a 42-39 edge on the glass
Benedictine received 37 points from the bench and made 19-of-24 free throws in the game
