Ravens Come Up Short in “Hoops for Hounds” Tournament Opener

More news about: Rosemont

WILLIAMSPORT – The Rosemont women's basketball team (3-5) ended up on the short end of a 73-52 score at host Lycoming College (6-4) this afternoon in the opening game of the Hoops for Hounds Tournament.

Both teams showed some rust after not playing competitive ball for several weeks, as Rosemont had been out of action for 18 days, and the Lycoming Warriors had not played a game in 16 days.

Leilani Naone-Carter had eight rebounds over the first 20 minutes to lead both teams. The Ravens were hurt by poor shooting in the first half, shooting 23.1% from the field to trail 39-23 at the break. In that sloppy first half, both teams combined for 21 turnovers, but a Rosemont highlight was a team total of seven blocks off of Warrior shots. The Ravens would end the game with 10 blocks.

The Ravens settled in the third period, getting to within 12 points of the Warriors, and outscoring the host side 16-14 to end the quarter trailing 53-39, but the Warriors pulled away late in the final quarter, outscoring the Ravens 20-13 in the final frame to account for the final score.

Jasmyn Parker led the Ravens with 12 points while Ayanna Thompson scored 11. Naone-Carter led both squads with 13 rebounds.

Lycoming's Chelsea Henderson led both teams, scoring 18 points. Shelby Mueller added 13 while Shelby Schoonover added 12 for the Warriors. Nicole Calella had 10 rebounds to lead the Warriors.

The Ravens will face the William Paterson Pioneers (5-6) tomorrow at 1:00pm at Lycoming in the consolation game of the Hoops for Hounds Tournament. The Pioneers were defeated by the York (Pa.) Spartans (9-0) tonight, 68-62.
