Barnes’ 20 points leads @OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball at Ramapo Tip-Off Tournament finale

MAHWAH, NJ --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball were unable to overcome an early deficit and fell 74-57 to the Penn State-Harrisburg Nittany Lions in Saturday's Ramapo Tip-Off Tournament championship game in Mahwah, New Jersey.  With the loss, Old Westbury evens up at 1-1 on the young season, while the Nittany Lions climbed to 2-0.   

Crystal Barnes and Tori Bellings were
 both named to the all-tournament team.  During the two games, Barnes averaged 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds 2.5 blocks and 2.0 steals, while Bellings went for 10.0 points and 7.0 rebounds.

Olivia Illardi sank the back end of her trip to the free-throw line to break the scoring ice as Old Westbury took a 1-0 lead 42 seconds in.  Penn State-Harrisburg took the lead for good 52 seconds later when Jasmine Yanich connected from deep to give the Nittany Lions a 5-3 edge.  Ilardi answered with a jumper to knot the game at 5-5 before the Nittany Lions responded with a 19-4 run from 7:03 to 1:44 to take a commanding 24-9 advantage.  Bellings scored four of Old Westbury's final six points in the quarter to slice the deficit to nine (26-15) at the end of 10 minutes.  

Old Westbury misfired on its opening five shots before Bridgid McNeill connected on a jumper with 7:59 remaining for the Panthers' first points of the second quarter.  Barnes ended the Nittany Lions' 9-2 run with a jumper to make it a 38-21 game with 2:15 showing on the first-half clock.  Old Westbury would outscore Penn State-Harrisburg 8-5 over the final 2:15 to trail 43-27 at intermission.  

Down 18 with 1:37 remaining, Barnes sank back-to-back field goals to make it a 13-point game (55-42) heading into the fourth quarter.   

Barnes then opened the fourth-quarter scoring 11 seconds into play with a jumper to bring Old Westbury within 11 points (55-44).  The deficit proved to be too much to overcome as Penn State-Harrisburg built its lead back to 18 points with 1:42 remaining to secure the win.  

Barnes led all scorers for the second-consecutive game by pouring in 20 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field to go along with four rebounds and one blocked shot.  Bellings and Jasmine Robinson each followed with 11 points, while Robinson nabbed a game-high four steals as Bellings ripped down a team-leading eight boards.  Raven Pentz racked up a game-high six assists.  McNeill contributed eight points and six rebounds off the bench.    

Yanich's 14 points (4-8 3FG) paced the Nittany Lions while Brittany Ulrich and Kaitlyn Carmo followed in double digits with 13 and 10 points, respectively.  

In the end, Old Westbury shot 40 percent from the field (26-65), 0-for-10 from three-point range and 23.8 percent (5-21) from the free-throw line as Penn State-Harrisburg connected on 41.3 percent from the floor (26-63), 35.7 percent from beyond the arc (10-28) and 75 percent from the charity stripe (12-16).  The Nittany Lions also held a 46-41 rebounding edge, while Old Westbury scored 16 second-chance points off 17 offensive boards.  Penn State-Harrisburg converted 25 Old Westbury turnovers into 28 points.
