The Yellowjacket women's basketball team was in action Friday night when they took on Finlandia University. Riding a two game winning streak, the Yellowjackets looked to pushe it to three following this match up. They did just that, as they never trailed in this game, defeating Finlandia 79-46.

The Yellowjackets started the game out on a 12-0 run and never looked back from there. The lead was pushed to 16-2 following a Bailee Bartunek layup, and it appeared as though things were going to get out of hand early in this match up. Finlandia kept the game interesting as they finished out the first quarter on an 8-0 run, cutting the Yellowjacket lead to 19-13 going into the first break.

The Yellowjackets pushed their lead to 17 on an 11-0 run, capped by a Justine Larson and-1, to open the second quarter. This time there would be no Finlandia run, as the Yellowjackets went into halftime holding a 39-22 advantage thanks to an Allyssa Lindberg 3-pointer as time expired.

The third quarter saw another early Yellowjacket run as their lead ballooned to 56-22 in the first five minutes of the quarter. With the game firmly in hand, the Yellowjackets were able to coast the rest of the quarter, going into the final break with a 68-30 lead.

The large lead allowed the Yellowjackets to play many of their reserves for extended minutes in the fourth quarter. In all, 16 Yellowjackets saw the court in this game, as the Yellowjackets cruised to the non-conference victory.

Hailey Kontny paced all scorers in this game, finishing with 23 points. Kontny also had three rebounds and three assists.

Lindberg added 14 points for the Yellowjackets, while Sarah Lekson finished with eight points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals off the bench. Bailee Bartunek added seven points and six rebounds in 15 minutes of playing time.

Finlandia was led by Julia Daavettila, who finished with 14 points and five rebounds. Brooke Pasanen was the only other Lion in double figures, finishing with 10 points.

The Yellowjackets shot 52.8% from the field, hitting 8-19 from beyond the 3-point arc, while going 15-20 from the free throw line.

Finlandia shot 30.2% from the field, going 9-28 from beyond the 3-point arc, while hitting 5-9 from the free throw line.

The Yellowjackets committed 13 turnovers. Finlandia committed 16.
