More news about: Alverno

PLYMOUTH, Wisconsin -- Visiting Alverno College fell to Lakeland College, 62-58, in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference contest Saturday afternoon in Woltzen Gymnasium.

A Julie Gallegos 3-pointer a minute into the third quarter gave the Inferno (4-5, 2-4 NACC) its largest lead of the game, 35-28, but the Muskies (2-6, 2-2) outscored the visitors 17-8 the remainder of the period for a two-point cushion to begin the fourth.

Back-to-back baskets by Gabby Hood and Brooke McBain put Alverno back in front, 47-45, but Lakeland responded with a 7-0 run and led the remainder of the game.

A Tessa Mersberger triple pulled the Inferno within two with six seconds remaining, but a pair of free throws by the Muskies iced the hosts' victory.

Hood led Alverno with 12 points and a game-high six assists, while McBain scored 11 and Mersberger added nine on three 3-pointers.

Lakeland was led by Bailey Grayvold's 20 points and 12 rebounds.

The Inferno continues its current road swing at the St. Pete Classic next weekend down in St. Petersburg, Florida, as it opens play versus Agnes Scott College Friday. Tipoff is at 11 a.m. Eastern time.
