NEWARK, N.J. (December 11, 2015) - The Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball team will travel to Stockton University on Saturday for a New Jersey Athletic Conference showdown with the Ospreys beginning at 1 p.m.

The Scarlet Raiders will be looking for their second conference win of the season and will be also hoping to even their overall record at 5-5. Rutgers-Newark (1-3 NJAC) earned a win in their NJAC opener back on November 24 but have since dropped three-straight, most recently falling to Kean University in The Golden Dome Arena Wednesday night.

Stockton is 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference and has earned wins in each of its last two games. The Ospreys defeated William Paterson University last Saturday and rolled to an 83-58 home win over Rutgers University-Camden Wednesday night.

Rutgers-Newark and Stockton are ranked third and fourth in the conference in field-goal percentage, respectively, with the Scarlet Raiders connecting on 40.0 percent of their attempts and the Ospreys hitting on 39.3 percent.

The Stockton defense is No. 2 in the conference, with R-N sitting No. 3 in three-point field-goal percentage (29.7 percent) and three-point field-goal percentage defense (25.4 percent). R-N checks in second in the NJAC in steals, averaging 12.7 per game.

Individually, junior guard Maria Simmons is leading the NJAC in scoring, averaging 20.1 points per game, with senior guard Arianna Williams checking in at No. 6 behind a 16.9 points per game average. Williams is sixth in the league in rebounding, pulling down 8.2 caroms per contest, with Simmons sitting sixth in field-goal percentage (48.6 percent). Simmons' 6.7 assists per game is also No. 1 in the NJAC, and the Williams-Simmons duo is one-two in steals per game (3.7, 3.4), with Williams leading the league in minutes played and minutes per game (353 minutes, 39.2 minutes per game).

Stockton won the three meetings between the two teams last year with Rutgers-Newark last defeating the Ospreys in the 2012-13 season when they swept the two-game regular-season series.
