Raiders Roll Past Inferno

More news about: Alverno

MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College suffered a 77-54 setback to visiting Milwaukee School of Engineering Saturday night inside Reiman Gymnasium.

The Inferno (3-4, 1-3 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) trailed by just one after a nearly even 14-13 first quarter, but the Raiders (1-4, 1-1 NACC) outscored the host team, 21-10, in the second for the 35-23 lead at the halftime break.

Mollie Mikyska began the third quarter with a three-point play to pull Alverno within nine, but that would be the closest the Inferno would get to the visitors the rest of the contest, as MSOE added to its lead as it outscored Alverno by 11 in the second half.

Mikyska scored 11 points and snagged six rebounds to lead the Inferno, while Gabby Hood added nine and Mackenzie Mathies had eight points.

The Raiders had three scorers in doubles led by Jamie Spanbauer's 18 on 7-of-13 shooting.

MSOE retains the Red Rivalry Cup, as they won for the third straight time in the series.

Tuesday at Dominican University begins a string of five consecutive road games for Alverno. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. down in River Forest, Illinois.
