BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team earned its second CUNY Athletic Conference victory in as many games by defeating Medgar Evers, 62-48, in the APEX Main Gym on Friday evening. Lehman has now won three games in a row, with the latter two coming in conference play.

The Lightning (4-3, 2-0 CUNYAC) were led by senior guard Jennifer Navarro, who produced a team-high 24 points, with five rebounds and six steals. Classmate Amani Lightbourne produced a double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds. Junior guard Amely Del Rosario produced 13 points and forced six steals.

After falling behind early, 9-5, Lehman scored the last nine points of the opening quarter, highlighted by a three-point field goal from Navarro. The first quarter ended with Lehman up 14-9.

The Cougars (0-8, 0-2 CUNYAC) managed to pull within two, at 19-17, with 5:31 remaining in the opening half. Navarro extended Lehman's lead by draining another shot from downtown. After Medgar Evers countered with a three-point basket of its own, Navarro answered right back with another successful shot from beyond the arc, to make it 25-20 in favor of the home team, with 4:41 left in the first half. Both teams went into the half with Lehman up 30-23.

In the third quarter, Lightbourne fed the ball to Navarro, who once again converted a three-point shot to give Lehman a 40-28, with 3:17 left to play in the stanza. The Cougars went on a run to pull within five, but Lightbourne got Lehman back on track by laying the ball up and in, to increase Lehman's advantage to 42-35, with less than a minute remaining in the third quarter. That would be the score heading into the fourth quarter.

The Lightning began to pull away in the final stanza. With 1:22 remaining in regulation time, Del Rosario drilled a field goal just outside of the paint to give Lehman its largest lead at the time, 60-46. Lightbourne converted a pair of free throws to give Lehman a 16-point lead, which would end up being its biggest lead of the contest. The Lightning would go on to win the game, 62-48.

Senior forward Tiara Youmans just missed a double-double, scoring eight points and grabbing 10 boards. Classmate Yarmese Jones grabbed four rebounds, while freshman forward Khadijah Sangare had three boards.

The Lightning will be back in the APEX Main Gym on Tuesday, for a CUNYAC matchup against York. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
